United Arab Emirates' Dana Gas preps for Zora gas development

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Dana Gas announced it awarded a $17 million contract to build a drilling platform for the United Arab Emirates' offshore Zora natural gas field.

The contract from the Emirati energy company went to Adyard Abu Dhabi, a subsidiary of Interserve.

"This contract is the first strategically significant development towards bringing the Zora gas field onstream," Dana Gas Chief Executive Officer Patrick Allman-Ward said in a statement Sunday.

"The appointment of Adyard Abu Dhabi [as a contractor] marks the start of a commitment program with awards for contracts for other aspects of the work to follow in due course," the chief executive said.

Dana says the platform will be installed in shallow waters off the coast of Sharjah, where the company has its headquarters.

The Zora field is expected to deliver 1.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day once production starts in the first half of 2015, officials said.
