E-Verify and ‘red flag’ postponed by Feds

The federal government has announced a delay in the implementation date for two regulations that affect employers:

1. E-Verify. The rule will require certain federal contractors to use the online E-Verify system to check the work eligibility status for new hires. The deadline to comply, which has been pushed back three times, is June 30.

2. Red-flag rules. If your organization sells products or services on credit, Aug. 1 is the new deadline to implement a written plan to mitigate identity theft of consumers' data. The old deadline was May 1. For details, see www.BusinessManagementDaily.com/redflagrules.
