SANTA MONICA , Calif., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- The Honest Company, maker of eco-friendly consumer products co-founded by actress Jessica Alba, announced a recall of its organic baby powder.

A statement on the company's website said it is recalling all of its organic baby powder, distributed in the United States in 4-ounce containers with UPC code 817810014529.

"This product is being recalled due to possible contamination with microorganisms, including some species associated with skin infections or eye infections," the statement said. "The product may therefore present a possible health risk. The Honest Company is voluntarily recalling this product out of an abundance of caution."

The company added that no other products are affected by the recall.

The Honest Company, based in Santa Monica, Calif., emphasizes non-toxic and environmentally safe products, but made headlines in March when its detergent was tested at two independent laboratories and found to contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which is safe for consumer use but can cause skin and eye irritation. The company responded that the detergent does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, but instead contains a gentler alternative, called sodium coco sulfate.

The Honest Company was also the target of a class action lawsuit by customers who said its sunscreen failed to protect them from sunburn.

The company's website said questions regarding the baby powder recall can be directed to 1-888-688-8653, Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST, or to [email protected], with subject line "Baby Powder."
