Stolen from CES: Razer's prototype three-screen laptops

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Two prototypes of a revolutionary three-screen laptop gaming computer were stolen at Las Vegas' Consumer Electronics Show, their manufacturer said.

A spokesman for Razer, the California-based maker, said a $25,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the thief. The laptop computers, codenamed Project Valerie, were missing from the Razer booth at the trade show on Sunday, three days after they were unveiled.

"Our teams worked months on end to conceptualize and develop these units," Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said in a statement. "We have filed the necessary reports and are currently working with the show management as well as law enforcement to address this issue."

The product has three video screens and is considered as the first portable laptop of its kind.

The Razer brand enjoys a cult status among computer gamers, and the rollout of the prototypes was eagerly anticipated, the BBC said Tuesday. It added that some social media users have suggested the alleged theft was a publicity stunt by Razer, but Todd Prince of the Las Vegas Review-Journal told the BBC, "Considering how much publicity this product already had gotten before the convention even started, everyone was already talking and writing about it. To me, it doesn't seem like Razer would need that much more publicity."
