CHICAGO, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- The CEO of online food-ordering service GrubHub Inc. clarified comments in which he objected to comments by President-elect Donald Trump.

A 300-word email, sent to GrubHub's 1,400 employees by CEO Matt Maloney on Wednesday, gave some the impression any support they voiced for Trump could result in their firing by the company.

"While demeaning, insulting and ridiculing minorities, immigrants and the physically/mentally disabled worked for Mr. Trump, I want to be clear that his behavior and these views have no place at GrubHub. Had he worked here, many of his comments would have resulted in his immediate termination ... If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here. We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team."

Some workers at the company said they concluded they were not welcome if they supported Trump, USA Today reported, and by Thursday some Twitter users were calling for a boycott of the $3 billion company, citing intolerance.

In a blog post late Thursday, Maloney reframed his comments.

"I did not ask anyone to resign if they voted for Trump. To the contrary, the message of the email is that we do not tolerate discriminatory activity or hateful commentary in the workplace, and that we will stand up for our employees."

Maloney was openly supportive of Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.
