Liquid Plumr bottles recalled for faulty child-resistant closures

WASHINGTON, July 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission recalled Liquid Plumr products for failure to install a child-resistant closure.

Each product is sold in plastic bottles and contains sodium hydroxide, a chemical which can cause skin burns and eye and skin irritation, and is required by law to be packaged in child-resistant containers.

The Clorox Company, Liquid Plumr makers, reported eight incidents of the child-resistant bottle cap failures, and 2,221 reports of leaking bottles. No injuries have been reported.

The recall involves Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Foaming Clog Fighter, formerly sold as Slow Flow Fighter, sold with UPC code 44600-00214; Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Urgent Clear, sold with UPC code 44600-30548; Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Foaming Clog Fighter, formerly sold as Slow Flow Fighter, sold with UPc Code 44600-00214, and Liquid Plumr Industrial Strength Urgent Clear, sold with UPC code 44600-31484. Only bottles of the product made before March 22, 2016 are subject to the recall.

The CPSC said consumers should keep this recalled product away from children and immediately contact The Clorox Company's Liquid Plumr call center, at 855-490-0705 for disposal and refund instructions.
