By Andrew V. Pestano

WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- Ford is taking part in a new model of mobility, working to create three electric bicycle models with Apple Watch connectivity.

"In many cities, driving your vehicle from home to work is not feasible. Ford is looking for solutions and revealed a new electric bike and a prototype Apple Watch app that makes using the eBike even easier for urban commutes," Ford said in a statement.

The Apple Watch connectivity aims to bring real-time data and functionality from the rider's wrists that includes a "no sweat" mode that "increases electric pedal assist based on heart rate -- ensuring riders gets to their destinations without breaking a sweat."

The watch also provides safety notifications, such as for hazards including potholes and approaching cars via a rear-facing ultrasonic sensor.

There are three MoDe e-bike models. Ford promises the MoDe:Flex model to be the most versatile e-bike yet.

"The bike's center frame assembly includes the motor and battery, while the front and rear assemblies and wheels can be configured for road, mountain or city riding," Ford said. "The bike folds and stores inside any Ford vehicle -- where it can be charged while stowed."
