Best Buy selling Xbox One for $175 with trade-in offer

By Doug G. Ware

RICHFIELD, Minn., June 17 (UPI) -- If you've been waiting for the best price on an Xbox One gaming console, this may be it.

Electronics retail giant Best Buy is offering Microsoft's newest gaming system for $175 through the end of this week if you trade in an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

There are a couple of strings, though. The deal only works if you trade in a working PlayStation 3 "Slim" model or Xbox 360 with a 250-gigabyte hard drive. You can trade in other models, as well, but they will only get you a $75 discount on the new Xbox One.

The deal is only valid, also, if the casing of the old console has not been opened. There is a seal indicator in each console that reveals whether they have been opened.

This may be a good time for gamers to take advantage of the new discount because several new games -- including the popular Madden 16 -- are not being released in Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions.

Microsoft also announced recently that, beginning this Christmas, Xbox One consoles will be backward compatible -- meaning they will be able to play all the games made for the Xbox 360 system.

The trade-in deal is detailed by Best Buy as follows:

Trade in any working Xbox 360 or PS3 console and receive a $75 coupon toward a Xbox One Console. Trade in a working Xbox 360 250GB or Sony Playstation 3 Slim and receive a minimum $100 gift card. Not available in all locations, and some stores may have additional limitations. Console must include AC adapter/power cord, power on, not be damaged or have its warranty seal broken to be considered working. Not compatible with other trade-in offers. You are required to agree to the Terms & Conditions. No Dealers. Limit of 1 trade per person.

However, the deal, which runs through June 20, is not applicable for Sony's PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One system was released in November 2013, when it retailed for $499. Since then, the price has been reduced to about $399, depending on the model.
