SUWON, South Korea, May 8 (UPI) -- Samsung has replaced mobile design head Chang Dong-hoon with the company's vice president of mobile design, Lee Min-hyouk, following the lukewarm response to its flagship Galaxy S5 phone.

Chang Dong-hoon will remain executive vice president but will focus more on his role as the head of the design strategy team, which oversees the company's long-term design strategy across all of its products.

"The realignment enables Executive Vice President Dong-Hoon Chang to focus more on his role as Head of Design Strategy Team, the company's corporate design center which is responsible for long-term design strategy across all of the Samsung Electronics' businesses, including Mobile Communications," Samsung said in a statement to CNET.

Lee is one of the company's youngest senior executives at 42, and is credited with designing the Galaxy series of phones, which made Samsung a world leader in smartphones. Lee started his Samsung career in the 1990s as a car designer for the company's failed partnership with Renault.

The recent Galaxy S5 received a disappointed response from users, with many saying it was the same as the Galaxy S4, with only a few minor hardware and software tweaks.
