NEW YORK, April 23 (UPI) -- Amazon just signed an exclusive deal with HBO to allow users of Amazon Prime instant video to stream episodes of select HBO series.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed except that it is only applicable to the U.S. The shows available will not be all of HBO's shows. HBO will keep exclusive rights to hit shows Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, Entourage, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The shows included in the deal are The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Big Love, Eastbound & Down, Family Tree, Enlightened, Treme, and early seasons of Boardwalk Empire and True Blood.
Seasons will become available for Girls, The Newsroom, and Veep incrementally over the multi-year agreement.
Previously the only way to get streaming access to HBO shows was to pay for the cable service and to use HBO GO, the cable network's on-demand service. The alliance with Amazon could help Prime to compete with other on-demand services.
Streaming will be available for the first wave of content May 21.
