NEW YORK, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices in New York closed at $102.59 a barrel Friday, settling up on the New York Mercantile Exchange despite disappointing economic news.
Among the negative economic report -- durable goods orders fell 1.5 percent from December to January and the Labor Department reported a significant rise of 14,000 first-time claims for unemployment benefits.
Natural gas picked up a dime, settling at $4.61 per million British thermal units.
The price for a gallon of gasoline picked up 3 cents to hit $2.79.
Heating oil prices added less than a penny to settle at $3.09 per gallon.
At the pump, the national average price for a gallon of unleaded rose from Thursday's $3.436 per gallon to $3.448, the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report said.
