Feb. 19, 2014 at 9:57 PM

MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. Italian restaurant chain Sbarro LLC said Wednesday it is closing 155 locations.

Sbarro said in a release the affected restaurants were "under-performing," New York's Newsday reported.

Sbarro, which emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2011, has about 800 restaurants, down from 1,000 in 2012.

J. David Karam became the company's chief executive officer last March after James Greco resigned after just a year on the job, Newsday noted.
