LONDON, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Industrial production in Britain rose 0.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013, the Office of National Statistics said Friday.

The most influential gain was a 0.7 percent increase in manufacturing output. The manufacturing sector is the largest component of the industrial production figure.

From December 2012 to December 2013, mining and quarrying production rose 2.6 percent, while water and waste management production rose 7.9 percent. Production at utilities, including electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, dropped 3 percent, ONS said.

From November to December, gains were paced by the pharmaceutical industry, coke and petroleum products and food, beverage and tobacco product production, ONS said.
