WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. regulators said Horizon Hobby of Champaign, Ill., is recalling about 1,100 remote control model helicopters due to risk of an injury.

The Blade 500 X BNF and Blade 500 3D RTF and BNF remote controlled toy helicopters, which have been imported from China, have tail rotor grips that secure the tail rotor blade to the rotor hub. But this mechanism can separate, which can create a crash that could injure bystanders, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The helicopters under recall have model numbers BLH 1800, BLH 1800MI, BLH 1850 and BLH 4080.

They are about 33 inches long and weigh about 4 pounds.

The canopy of the helicopter has a "500 3D" logo on either side.

They were sold nationwide and in Canada from May 2013 through September 2013 for $600 to $900.

Consumers were advised to stop using the helicopters and contact Horizon Hobby for a free replacement tail grip and instructions for installation.

Consumers can call 877-504-0233 for information.
