PRINCETON, N.J., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Less than 10 percent of respondents to a Gallup poll indicated they were very satisfied with wealth distribution in the United States.

Gallup said 7 percent of 1,018 respondents to a Jan. 5-8 survey indicated they were "very satisfied" with wealth distribution while 39 percent indicated they were "very dissatisfied."

Overall, 67 percent indicated they were dissatisfied with the figure unevenly split between Republicans and Democrats.

Seventy-five percent of Democrats and 54 percent of Republicans indicated they were dissatisfied with the distribution of wealth and income in the United States, Gallup said.

Surprisingly, perhaps, the percentage of Republicans and Democrats indicating that "opportunities to get ahead by working hard" has been consistent over the past three years and was nearly identical between Democrats and Republicans.

Republicans held a slight edge with 61 percent indicating they were satisfied with "opportunities to get ahead by working hard" while 60 percent of Democrats indicated agreement.

Independents were less optimistic, Gallup said. Of those identifying themselves as independents, 45 percent indicated they were satisfied with opportunities to get ahead by good, old-fashioned hard work while 55 indicated dissatisfaction.

Gallup said the results of the survey carry a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
