Ford recalls 28,000 Edge crossover vehicles

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co. said it is recalling about 28,000 Edge crossover sport utility vehicles due to a fire hazard.

The recall involves model year 2012-13 Edge vehicles, some of which were already recalled for the same problem, a fuel leak on cars with with 2-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engines, the New York Times reported Saturday.

The vehicles are equipped with fuel line "dampers" that help regulate fuel flow. Ford said the dampers, even some of those it replaced in the previous recall, were defective.

The remedy is to remove the dampers, Ford said. They are situated in a low pressure area of the fuel delivery system and can be removed without affecting performance, Ford said.

If left in place, the faulty dampers could allow "fuel odor, seepage or a small fuel leak," Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker said.
