The NV200 is a minivan-based design that features a front end similar to the traditional TX4 black cabs currently seen throughout London, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The cab, will be available in December for $49,419.
Nissan said it doesn't expect to make a profit on the vehicles -- only about 1,200 cabs are sold annually in London -- but rather, the initiative to create a new cab for London has more to do with brand awareness, said Jim Wright, Nissan GB managing director.
Wright said the campaign will hopefully draw attention to Nissan's e-NV200, an all-electric version of the NV200, which will be available in early 2015.
The British-built, fully-electric Ecotive Metrocab is also expected to be on the market at the end of this year, the Daily Telegraph said. The cab is powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery pack, as well as a Wankel rotary gas engine that keeps the battery powered.
Mercedes-Benz also launched its Vito cab design, which is available for $69,796.
