Neiman Marcus provided few details on the breach, but said the company "was informed by our credit card processor in mid-December of potentially unauthorized payment card activity that occurred following customer purchases at your Neiman Marcus Group stores."
"We have begun to contain the intrusion and have taken significant steps to further enhance information security," the statement said.
NBC News reported Saturday that the announcement was made Friday, which was the same day Target announced a data breach that affected 40 million customers had actually affected 70 million. In the same day, Target revised that figure to 110 million affected customers who were affected by a security breach that began Nov. 27 and continued through Dec. 15.
Neiman Marcus did not divulge the number of customers affected. It said it received confirmation of the breach on Jan. 1 and that "some customers' cards were possibly compromised as a result."
The company also said it was attempting to inform customers "whose cards we know were used fraudulently after making a purchase at our store."
