Industrial production climbs in Britain

LONDON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Industrial production in Britain rose 2.5 percent from November 2012 to November 2013, the Office of National Statistics said Friday.

The sharpest gain was posted by the manufacturing sector, which is the largest component of the industrial production figure. Mining and quarrying also posted gains, as did water supply, sewerage and waste management.

Within manufacturing, basic iron an steel production rose 34.3 percent, the sharpest gain since recordkeeping began in 1998, ONS said.

From October to November, total production was unchanged. From month to month, manufacturing was flat, while mining and quarrying and water supply, sewerage and waste management production declined.

The month-to-month decline was offset by gains in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning.
