Volvo of North America to recall nearly 31,000 cars

WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Volvo Cars of North America said it would recall nearly 31,000 vehicles because of problems with low-oil-pressure warning systems, U.S. regulators said.

The recall involves model year 2011-2012 vehicles made between June 22, 2010 and May 14, 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.

Only cars with 5-cylinder B5254TS engines are affected by the recall, the regulator said.

The recall was announced because the vehicles "may not alert the driver of a low-oil-pressure situation," which could stall the car, which could result in a crash, the NHTSA said.

Volvo has said it would update software in the vehicle free of charge to remedy the situation.
