Rhode Island, Nevada post highest unemployment rates

WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Rhode Island and Nevada posted the highest unemployment rates in November at 9 percent, and North Dakota had the lowest, 2.6 percent, the Labor Department said.

Michigan had the third-highest jobless rate, 8.8 percent, followed by Illinois (8.7 percent), the District of Columbia (8.6 percent) and California (8.5 percent), the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.

South Dakota posted the second-lowest unemployment rate for November, 3.6 percent, followed by Nebraska (3.7 percent), Utah (4.3 percent), and Wyoming, Vermont, Iowa and Hawaii, each with at 4.4 percent.

The current national unemployment rate is 7 percent, down from 7.3 percent in October.
