Housing starts slow down a touch in Canada

OTTAWA, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Housing starts in Canada slowed modestly from October to November, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Monday.

The trend in housing starts, a six-month rolling average on a seasonally adjusted annual basis, dropped from 195,274 in October to 194,014 in November.

The stand alone 12-month annual rate for November, seasonally adjusted, was 192,235, down from the 198,161 mark from October, the national housing agency said.

Urban area housing starts declined 3.4 percent to rise to 171,347, the monthly report said. Urban housing starts that included multiple-unit urban projects fell 3.5 percent to 111,036, while single-family urban project starts decreased by 3.1 percent to 60,311 in the month.
