Investors to focus on speeches and reports this week

NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. investors were likely to pay attention to speeches Monday and watch economic reports the rest of the week to set the tone for buying and selling.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Charles Plosser of Philadelphia, William Dudley of New York and Narayana Kocherlakota of Minneapolis, federal reserve branch presidents, were all scheduled to give speeches Monday.

On Tuesday, the European Commission's data office Eurostat will report on September's construction outlays in the eurozone and the European Union. Also Tuesday, third-quarter employment costs will be released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

On Wednesday, the Labor Department is set to release October's consumer price index and the Commerce Department is to report on October's performance by the retail sector and business inventories.

Also Wednesday, the National Association of Realtors is set to release October's existing home sales numbers.

Thursday's reports include the Markit Economics estimate of the eurozone's purchasing managers index for November and Markit's PMI for the U.S. manufacturing sector.

Also Thursday, the Labor Department is scheduled to release October's producer price index and the week's unemployment benefit claims.

On Friday, Statistics Canada is to release a consumer price index for October and September's retail sales figures.
