Honda is recalling four-wheel drive 2012 and 2013 FourTrax TRX500 Foreman ATV models FE and FM.
The ATVs are red, green or camouflage with the name "Honda" on both sides of the fuel tank. The name "Foreman appears on the front cowl below the handlebars, the commission said in a late Tuesday release.
The company has received 18 reports of steering shafts breaking. Two of the incidents resulted in crashes, the commission said.
The ATVs were made in the United States and sold by American Honda Motor Company of Torrance, Calif.
They were sold from May 2011 through September 2013 for between $6,900 and $7,900, the commission said.
Consumers were advised to stop using the ATVs and contact a Honda ATV dealer to schedule a free repair.
