LONDON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Britain's Office of National Statistics said in its first estimate the country's economy rose 0.8 percent in the third quarter from the second.

ONS said the largest contribution came from the service sector, which added more than 0.55 percentage point to the gross domestic product. Construction businesses added about 0.15 percentage point with a 2.5 percent expansion in the quarter, ONS said.

Production grew 0.5 percent, which includes a 0.9 percent increase in manufacturing, ONS said.

The economy has expanded 1.5 percent over the third quarter of 2012, the data office said.

The gain follows a 0.7 percent gain in the second quarter.
