Costco recalling beef in Western Canada

OTTAWA, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Canadian food safety officials said Costco is recalling potentially contaminated packages of Kirkland Signature organic ground beef sold in four provinces.

The recalls involve ground beef with UPC code 4 00000 91873 0 and an expiration date of Oct. 13, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Saturday.

The beef is potentially contaminated with E. coli bacteria, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said.

The beef was being recalled from Costco stores in the western provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the CBC said.

There have been no reports of illnesses. The CBC report did not say how much beef was being recalled but the government agency was monitoring the recall.
