KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Cerner Corp.'s plan for a $4.3 billion campus that would be the biggest office development in Kansas City history got a City Council committee's OK Wednesday.
The Kansas City Star reported the full City Council was likely to approve the proposal for the old Bannister Mall site Thursday.
Cerner -- an international healthcare information technology company that provides systems for hospitals and other medical organizations to manage and integrate their electronic medical records -- envisions a 4.5 million-square-foot campus that would be developed in 14 phases over the next decade, the newspaper said.
The company projects it will employ 15,000 people at the complex when completed.
The City Council's Planning, Zoning & Economic Development Committee approved Cerner's request for $1.63 billion in tax incentives to help pay for the project, the Star said.
The project calls for 11 office buildings ranging from five to 11 stories high, a massive children's day-care center, two data centers, a service center and 370,000 square feet of retail space.
