Lehman Brothers London sign reappears for sale

LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The Lehman Brothers sign that adorned the firm's office in London is headed for the auction block again, auction house Christie's said.

The sign is a brushed metal 22-inch by 118-inch sign that bears the company name, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

It also fetched $66.400 at an auction of Lehman Brother's books and artwork that was held in September 2012, the Journal said.

Why it is back for sale is unclear. In the first auction, Lehman Brothers former employees bid on the sign that was then expected to sell for about $4,500.

In an auction scheduled for Tuesday, it is expected to sell for about $12,500 to $19,000, the Journal reported.

This time around, the sale is selling close to the fifth anniversary – which falls on Sunday – of the firm's collapse.

The investment bank's failure became symbolic of the financial crisis of 2008, which is credited with triggering the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.
