"Like any other sector, we have been suffering from several problems for a while. The current economic recession ... and the absence of a cabinet make the situation even worse," said Dana Nakad, the director of the Oil Importers Association.

The association called for others to join the strike, but the Association of Petrol Station Owners said gas station owners should decide for themselves whether or not to close for the day to support of the strike.

"We support the decision [to suspend fuel deliveries] for one day but we will leave it to the owners of petrol stations to express their views as suitable," the Association of Petrol Station Owners said.
