WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Wilton Industries of Woodridge, Ill., is recalling 717,000 stove top kettles due to a burn hazard, U.S. regulators said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said steam can travel up the handle of the Chefmate 2-quart Tea Kettle, which was sold with a black enamel finish and a solid black handle.

They were imported from Indonesia and China and sold at Target stores nationwide from January 2006 through May 2013 for about $9, the commission said Tuesday.

The company has received several reports of steam traveling up the handle or hot water spilling from the kettles. Four reports said the tea kettle base melted onto a stove burner.

Consumers were advised to stop using the kettles and return them to a Target store or contact Wilton Industries for a full refund.

Consumers can call 866-255-9237 for information.
