Manufacturing growth in Texas slows

DALLAS, July 29 (UPI) -- The Dallas Federal Reserve Bank said Monday Texas manufacturing production showed continued expansion in July.

The production index for the state dropped from 17.1 to 11.4, suggesting slower growth than June, but the index needs to fall below zero to indicate a contraction.

The new orders index also showed slower growth as the measure fell from 17 to 10.8. Capacity utilization, which measures production related to factories going full steam, fell from 15.2 to 12.2.

The shipments index climbed to 17.7, reaching highest reading in six months.

The general activity index dropped from 6.5 but remained positive at 4.4 in the month.

The employment index measuring the number of employees rose, reaching the highest reading in nearly a year, the Fed said.
