Industrial output slows in Britain

LONDON, July 9 (UPI) -- Industrial production and manufacturing slowed from May 2012 to May 2013 in Great Britain, the national data office said.

Production slipped 2.3 percent from May to May on a seasonally adjusted basis. Manufacturing over the same period declined 2.9 percent, the Office of National Statistics said Tuesday.

The agency said the declines were steepest among companies that make machinery and equipment, followed by rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products.

The ONS said May 2012 included one extra business day due to a bank holiday that was moved to June last year. That may account for some of the decline, the agency said.

From April to May industrial production was flat, while manufacturing output dropped 0.8 percent, ONS said.
