June 19, 2013 at 5:47 PM

MILAN, Italy, June 19 (UPI) -- A court in Milan, Italy, Wednesday sentenced fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to suspended jail terms for tax evasion.

NBC News reported the designers were handed sentences of 20 months for failure to pay taxes on $1.3 billion in income.

The sentences will not have to be served if the designers are not found guilty of any other crimes for five years, the news agency said.

Neither Dolce, nor Gabbana, who claim they are innocent, attended the sentencing.
