Retail week shows modest gain

NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- U.S. retail receipts rose modestly in the week that ended Friday, the International Council of Shopping Centers said Tuesday.

The ICSC-Goldman Sachs weekly tracking report indicated sales rose "by a modest 0.3 percent" from the previous week although sales rose 2.5 percent from the same week of 2012, the trade group said.

The weekly retail survey said the weather was warm, but wet, and "painted a mixed picture for the week."

The group said "notable improvements" were tracked at department, electronic and drug stores, but "pockets of weakness" were experienced at dollar stores and wholesale clubs.

Weather Trends International said the week was warmer than the same week a year earlier and slightly warmer than the week's long-term trend.

It was also the wettest second week in June in 22 years in the critical Northeast.
