Amazon to start grocery deliveries in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, June 10 (UPI) -- Amazon.com said it would begin a delivery service for groceries in Los Angeles, which would be available with same-day or next-day services.

For Los Angeles, the service will be offered during an initial 90-day trial period. For the trial, it would only be available to customers who live within select ZIP code areas, the company said.

The Los Angeles Times said the service might appeal to consumers fed up with traffic and the difficulty of finding a parking space.

The retail giant said it would be picking stores to participate and had already lined up Intelligentsia Coffee, La Brea Bakery, the Pie Hole and Santa Monica Seafood as some of the local businesses that will work with AmazonFresh, the company's grocery division.

The company said it would select other businesses to participate in the service, which it already established in Seattle, where Amazon has been delivering groceries since 2007.
