Hyundai resumes weekend assembly work

May 25, 2013 at 12:54 PM

USLAN, South Korea, May 25 (UPI) -- Hyundai Motor Co. said it has resumed weekend shifts at some of its assembly lines in South Korea Saturday to make up for lost production.

The automaker had halted weekend production in March at its five Uslan assembly plants, but called back two weekend shifts at three of the plants starting Saturday.

The weekend shutdown had cut Hyundai's total production by 79,000 vehicles valued at 1.7 trillion won ($1.5 billion), South Korea's Yonhap news agency said.

Yonhap said it was not known when weekend operations would resume at the other two Uslan plants.
