Nissan recalling 19,250 Pathfinders and Infiniti JXs

WASHINGTON, Ark., April 22 (UPI) -- Japanese automaker Nissan said it would recall 19,250 Pathfinder and Infiniti JX cars in the United States because of potential problems with the front brakes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday those vehicles made between Dec. 3, 2012, and Jan. 29, 2013, were involved in the recall.

The cars have front brake torque members that were improperly cast, the regulator said.

Because of the mistake, front brake calipers could move out of position, which would lead to premature failure and cracking, increasing the risk of a crash.

Nissan expects the recall to begin in May. The company will inspect the front brakes and replace them free of charge if necessary, the NHTSA said.

Consumers can call Nissan at 800-647-7261.
