CMHC data show only slight increase February to March

OTTAWA, April 9 (UPI) -- Housing starts rose slightly in March in Canada, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Tuesday.

On a seasonally adjusted annual rate, housing starts came to 184,028 in March, up from 183,207 in February.

The rate for urban housing starts fell 27 percent in the month to 157,217 with a 6.6 percent decline in single-family urban starts to 60,558.

Multiple-unit urban housing starts were little changed in the month at 96,659. Meanwhile, the rate for rural starts rose to 26,811 from 21,626.
