Gold, silver, climb with dollar index flat

NEW YORK, March 21 (UPI) -- The price for an ounce of gold added $10.40 -- 0.6 percent -- and settled at $1,614 Thursday on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Silver added 51 cents, or 1.7 percent, and closed at $29.15 an ounce.

The dollar index fell 0.06 percent to 82.82 on the International Exchange.

Against the dollar, the euro was at $1.2903 from Wednesday's $1.2936. Against the yen, the dollar was lower at 94.90 yen from 96.01 yen.

The British pound rose to $1.5172 from $1.5098. The dollar fell to 1.0246 Canadian dollars from 1.026 Canadian.
