BRUSSELS, March 13 (UPI) -- Europe's industrial production dropped 0.4 percent December to January, the European Union's statistical office Eurostat reported Wednesday.

Production was down by the same percentage in both the 27-member EU and the 17-member eurozone, the data branch of the European Commission said.

January's production figures also showed a decline from January 2012. The production drop in the eurozone came to 1.3 percent. In the EU, production dropped 1.7 percent, Eurostat said.

Month-to-month production of durable goods fell 1.4 percent in the eurozone and 0.4 percent in the EU. Capital goods production dropped 1.2 percent across both regions.

Energy production fell 1 percent in the eurozone and 1.2 percent in the larger EU.

Production of non-durable goods -- items that last three years or less -- rose 0.9 percent in the eurozone and 1.3 percent in the EU, the data agency said.
