Britain's trade gap narrowed in January

LONDON, March 12 (UPI) -- Britain's Office for National Statistics pegged the national trade deficit for January at $3.5 billion, a modest decline from December.

The trade gap had been $4.1 billion in the previous month, the ONS said.

The month included a $12.2 billion deficit on goods trading and an estimated surplus of $8.6 billion in services.

In the prior three months, the trade deficit for goods came to $32.4 billion, a drop of $1.9 billion from the previous three months and a decline of $740 million from the same period a year earlier, ONS said.
