GM to recall 231,000 vehicles with fire hazard

NEW YORK, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Gold and silver made modest gains on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday as the dollar index was flat.
Gold, which dropped $40.50 Wednesday, added $3.20 Friday on top of Thursday's $13.20 advance. Gold reached $1,579.20 per troy ounce, remaining down for the week.
Silver, which shed 85 cents Wednesday, added 9 cents Thursday and Friday to pull back up to $28.75 per ounce.
Against the dollar the euro fell to $1.3184 from Thursday's $1.319. Against the yen, the dollar was higher at 93.412 yen from 93.11 yen.
The British pound fell to $1.5187 from $1.5253. The dollar rose to 1.0207 Canadian dollars from 1.0186 Canadian.
