Producer prices rose marginally in January

WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Producer Price Index for finished goods rose in line with expectations in January, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.

Prices producers received were up 0.2 percent from December, matching the consensus forecast. Core prices, which exclude prices for finished food and energy items, also rose 0.2 percent, in line with expectations.

Separately, prices for food items rose 0.7 percent month to month, while energy prices dropped 0.4 percent, the bureau said.

Prices for intermediate goods were flat in the month, while prices for crude goods -- essentially raw materials -- rose 0.8 percent.
