Grains mixed ahead of production report

CHICAGO, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Grain futures were mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade with the dollar index dropping sharply, off 1.08 percent to 79.74 on the International Exchange.

Corn was up 2 1/4 to up 3 3/4, soybeans were off 2 1/4 to off 5 3/4, wheat was off 1 to off 1 3/4 and oats were up 3 to up 4 1/2.

Corn prices rose modestly with support from the dollar ahead of Friday's production report. News for wheat traders included export sales that were under expectations balanced with a sale of 55,000 metric tons to Egypt. Soybean prices lost some ground but found support from a bullish export sales report.

Corn: Mar 6.98 3/4 up 4 1/2, May 6.97 1/2 up 3 3/4, Jly 6.90 1/2 up 2 1/4, Sep 6.07 1/4 up 3.

Soybeans: Jan 14.17 1/2 off 2 1/4, Mar 13.79 3/4 off 5 3/4, May 13.71 1/2 off 3 3/4, Jly 13.67 1/4 off 5.

Wheat: Mar 7.44 1/2 off 1, May 7.53 1/2 off 1, Jly 7.60 1/4 off 1 1/4, Sep 7.70 3/4 off 1 3/4.

Oats: Mar 3.39 1/2 up 3, May 3.45 up 3, Jly 3.50 1/2 up 3 3/4, Sep 3.52 1/4 up 4 1/2.
