Gold slides Thursday

NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Gold and silver slid Thursday with pressure provided by a stronger dollar.

The dollar index rose 0.88 percent to 80.55 on the International Exchange.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold for February delivery shed $14.20 or 0.84 percent to $1,674.60 per troy ounce, giving up more than the $13 it gained Wednesday.

Silver for March delivery lost 29 cents or 0.93 percent to $30.72 an ounce.

The euro fell to $1.3042 from Wednesday's $1.3049. The dollar rose to 87.43 yen from 87.24 yen.
