Soybeans set negative tone in Chicago

CHICAGO, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Grain futures were mixed in Chicago Tuesday as the dollar index dropped 0.31 percent to 79.34 on the International Exchange.

On the Chicago Board of Trade, corn was unchanged to off 4 to off 6 3/4, soybeans were off 19 1/4 to off 30 14, wheat was up 1 1/4 to up 3 1/4 and oats were off 8 to of 8 3/4.

Corn prices fell in sympathy with sharp drops in soybean prices. Wheat futures rose with support from the weaker dollar. Soybean prices dropped as China canceled a purchase of 300,000 metric tons and an unnamed buyer canceled orders for another 110,000 metric tons.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 7.20 off 4, May 7.23 3/4 off 3 3/4, Jly 7.21 3/4 off 3 1/4, Sep 7.43 1/4 unchanged.

Soybeans: Jan 14.66 off 30 1/4, Mar 14.60 1/2 off 27 3/4, May 14.44 1/2 off 22 3/4, Jly 14.32 1/2 off 19 1/4.

Wheat: Mar 8.11 1/4 up 3 1/4, May 8.23 up 2 3/4, Jly 8.29 up 1 3/4, Sep 8.41 up 1 1/4.

Oats: Mar 3.80 1/2 off 8 3/4, May 3.86 1/4 off 8 1/2, Jly 3.86 3/4 off 8, Sep 3.76 1/4 off 8.
