COVENTRY, England, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Britain's Jaguar Land Rover said Sunday it will produce vehicles at a new plant in China in a joint venture with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.
The Chinese government has given formal approval for the partnership, which also will lead to new models, the companies said in a release.
Jaguar Land Rover and Chery said they will move ahead with completion of a manufacturing plant in Changshu, near Shanghai, in 2014 as part of a $160 million investment that will include a research-and-development center and engine production facility.
The name of the new joint venture company will be Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Co.
