GM recalls 260,000 SUVs

DETROIT, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- General Motors is recalling 260,000 mid-size 2006 and 2007 SUVs in the northern United States, Canada and overseas, the company announced Saturday.

Most of the vehicles, 249,260, were sold or are currently registered in states where salt is used on the roads in winter, The Detroit Free Press reported.

About 9,150 are being recalled in Canada and a few thousand elsewhere.

GM said the vehicles may have a problem with power doors on the driver's side that allows fluid to get in. That could lead to a short-circuit and then possibly to overheating and even a fire.

No crashes, injuries or fires that spread beyond the vehicle have been reported. GM said it has received 167 reports and 698 warranty claims, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Association has received 66 reports of melted or burning door modules and 17 involving power windows working erratically.

The vehicles involved in the recall include the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; 2006-07 Trailblazer, Envoy, Buick Rainier, Saab 9-7x, and Isuzu Ascender. The states are Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
