The Tokyo Stock Exchange suspended trading for all derivatives because of the computer system failure, The Wall Street Journal reported.
It resumed trading of Topix-linked futures, Japanese government bond futures and other derivatives about 90 minutes later.
The exchange's main index, the Nikkei, closed at 8,803.31, picking up 77.22 points, or 0.88 percent.
