Bowflex dumbbells recalled

WASHINGTON, June 8 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells that fail to hold onto weighted plates.

About 17,000 Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Dumbbells were imported from China and sold at sporting goods stores from May 2011 through August 2011 for about $600.

The weight selector dial can fail, allowing plates to fall off the dumbbells, which could injure a consumer, the agency said.

The dumbbells were distributed by Nautilus Inc. of Vancouver, Wash.

The recall involves black steel dumbbells sold in pairs that have the word "BOWFLEX" written in gray along the top of each handle. The selector dials are black with red numerals designating the selections.

Consumers were advised to stop using the dumbbells and contact Nautilus for a free repair kit.

Consumers can call 800-416-7271 for information.
